Phonics
Next week we will be practicing the vowel team "ea" with a short e sound (e.g., ready, health, breakfast) and the vowel team "a" with a short o sound (e.g., want, swan, watch). A new Roll and Read sheet will be sent out on Monday, June 1, 2026.
- What are the different spellings for the "aw" sound?
- Can you tell me a word for each different spelling?
- Can you use each of these words in a sentence?
Literacy
Students have been working on a project in which they write about where they would take our class pet, Marnie, for a day adventure. Next week, they will have the opportunity to create digital presentations based on their writing and present them to the class.
As students have become pros at procedural writing, they have also been working on creating their own procedural writing booklets to teach others how to do or make something.
- Where would you take Marnie for a day?
- Why would you take Marnie there?
- What is your procedural writing book about?
Students have been learning how to use base ten blocks for addition and subtraction with without regrouping, as well as addition with regrouping.
