February 16-February 20
Phonics
This week we continued practicing the spelling words with the sound /er/ - er, ir, ur, w+or. Students have received a new Roll and Read sheet to practice their spellings for next week’s spelling test (On Thursday, February 26th). We will be practicing r-controlled vowels. These are vowels followed by the letter “r,” where the “r” changes the vowel sound, such as in words like her, bird, corn, and fur.
Ask your child how they felt about this week’s spelling test. Their spelling test will be sent home on Monday.
Literacy
Students have been learning how to use adjectives to make their sentences more interesting and detailed. Adjectives help describe nouns by telling how something looks, feels, or sounds. Students practiced adding adjectives to their writing.
Ask your child if they can tell you some adjectives that they know.
Math
Students have become very skilled at understanding bar graphs. They practiced reading and interpreting the data, as well as answering questions and making comparisons based on the information shown. They even made their own bar graph about favourite colours.
Ask your child about what needs to be included on a bar graph.
